Production Operative (m/f)

Job description

  • Produce high quality base units, pistons/cylinders and associated DWT components in the most cost productive manner using existing, new technologies and production methods to meet customer and company requirements.

  • Conversant in all aspects of manufacturing and testing/evaluation of base, sub-assembly units and piston units including UKAS certification.

  • Provide technical support to manage the research and development of industrial deadweight testers, aspiring to remain the leading manufactures worldwide.

  • Responsible for compliance with the quality system.  

  • Carryout Fork Lift duties and complete all necessary checks and report any defects immediately to the Supply Chain & Production Manager.

  • Convey to Supply Chain & Production Manager any short/long term problems in achieving department goals.

  • Update any Work Instructions in accordance to WIKA guidelines.

  • Work with the Supply Chain & Production Manager on any other projects and assignments where appropriate.

  • Assist in the training of others in your department.

  • Assist in the picking of stock for work orders reporting any shortages or discrepancies in stock. Goods received inventory and checks, despatching. Carryout regular stock checks.

  • Book in service jobs onto Axapta and the service desktop.

  • Assist with workload in the calibration lab as and when required.

  • Conversant in all aspects of packaging methods relating to WIKA Calibration Division products.

  • Follow all WIKA Health & Safety guidelines.

  • Assisting the Supply Chain Manager on activities relating to Axapta.

  • Carry out Cover activities in other departments to ensure Company outputs are achieved, along with any other duties deemed necessary as defined by business needs or your manager.

  • To assist the Production & Supply Chain Manager to identify and manage the implementation of process improvements to maximise efficiency, increase productivity and improve quality, using proven tools such as the Value Stream Mapping Process (VSM).

  • Champion Kaizen, lean and continuous improvement, following the culture of the WIKA Group.

  • Update any work instructions relevant to the company in accordance to WIKA guidelines.

  • Ensure the efficiency of the technical department, using 5S and Kaizen/Lean initiatives, actively promote new ideas and process improvements via the company’s suggestion scheme.

  • Carry out cover activities in other departments to ensure company outputs are achieved, along with any other duties deemed necessary as defined by business needs or the Department Manager.

  • Work with Supply Chain & Production Manager to ensure we have Kanban / super market process in place in the Assembly and PCU department giving at least 2 months of security especially on PCU kits.

Requested profile

  • Must be technically minded and educated to ‘A Level’ standard or equivalent, technical qualification would be advantageous.

  • Must have experience working within a production environment.

  • Good competent knowledge of all Microsoft Office programmes.

  • Must have a pro-active, can-do attitude.

  • Must be able to offer a good degree of flexibility where workload permits.

  • Literate with effective communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to communicate confidently with both external and internal customers and suppliers.

  • Must be organised and skilled in time management.

  • Must be enthusiastic and self-motivated.

  • Must be able to effectively prioritise and manage workloads.

Reporting to the Production & Supply Chain Manager

Responsible for providing support assistance to the Production & Supply Chain Manager in managing and improving all activities and functions associated with the production, packing and warehouse operation. Manufacturing and testing to Ukas standard dead weight testers and piston cylinders.
